What to look for when inspecting chain

New ish to maintenance and, I keep seeing advice like "inspect the chain regularly" or "make sure your chain is in good shape," but what exactly does that mean? like, when I'm down there looking at the thing on my 2020 Versys 650, what should I actually be checking for? I know to look at slack and keep it lubed, but beyond that, how do you know when or if something is wrong?

Spin the wheel slow, check for tight spots or stiff links, you can also clean and lube it good. If it's still jacked or the sprockets look worn, time to replace the whole setup

got some tips about this: when you're inspecting the chain, pay close attention to the O rings. If you see any of them cracked, missing, or dried out, that's a sign that dirt and moisture are getting into the pins, which will lead to a seized link.
You should also look at the sprocket teeth. They should be evenly spaced and have a rounded, symmetrical profile. If the teeth are hooked or look like shark fins, your sprockets are worn out, and you should replace the chain and sprockets together as a set
